Our goal here in the Puppy Development Program is to help you recognize what you want from your new puppy and to help you get these results the fastest way possible. Your 8-week-old puppy will grow into an adolescent, with adult size and strength, in just four short months. The most crucial time in your puppys life is the first couple weeks at home, and his successful development is in your hands. In this program you will learn about puppy proofing your house, crate training, chewing, digging, biting and nipping, barking, and much more. You will also learn how to prevent your dog from guarding their food and toys, and how to get your dog ready to see the Vet and the Groomer with no struggles. We will even show you how to get your dog to ring a bell when they have to go to the bathroom. Our mission is to teach both you and your puppy good habits instead of having to break the bad ones later!

Get your puppy started off on the right paw! This class is designed to help socialize your puppy with new sounds, situations, people and other puppies. Every class has "puppy playtime", where your pup will get to play with all the other puppies in class. We cover common puppy issues including digging, jumping, mouthing, house training, as well as sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it and focus commands. We will even show you how to teach your puppy to ring a bell when he has to pee! This class is open to large dogs up to approx. 6 months of age, and small dogs approx. 8 months of age.

This class is for dogs over the age of 6 months and is also great for dogs who have just been adopted into a new home.
In beginner obedience, you and your dog will learn all of the basic commands: sit, down, come when called, stay, finish, and most importantly, focusing on heel. You will also learn to work as a team from a distance, with hand signals and from various positions. We accomplish quite a lot in this class, so there will be homework! For the summer months, this class will now be taught outside to hopefully create a real training situation that you deal with on a daily basis. Rarely are treats used in this class as we work on training with motivation, as well as building a relationship based on leadership and respect.

Clients often say "My dog listens in class but not in the real world." Well, what better way to fix that than to go and do a class in the real world! Our outdoor adventure class proofs behaviors learned in previous obedience classes, and tests them in real life situations. This class is taught outdoors and field trips may include parks, trails, downtown, the seawall, shopping centers, lakes, beaches and pet stores! Transportation not included.
Prerequisite for this course is completion of beginner obedience.

Private lessons can be booked on an hourly basis in your home or at the school. Rate is $40 per hour, plus mileage if you live outside Nanaimo. This is especially good for dogs with specific behavior problems or for those who find the class times not suitable. Please call to arrange.
